Baby Registry Now Exists!
We've had several people ask us what we need to start getting ready for Baby Girl's arrival in September. Other than industrial-strength sized chocolate bars (perhaps delivered by the truckload?) and a pair of earplugs, I really wasn't sure. Between school and our jobs we've not had much time to sit down and draw up a list, but we were fortunate enough that Jack's co-worker had been sweet enough to send us one. She had a baby last year, and we've been squeezing bits of mommy wisdom out of her ever since. Thank you, Susanna! She was even kind enough to include links to the products she advocated in her list.
We had been to Babies R Us last weekend and found an awesome set of baby furniture completely by accident in the clearance section. It was a discontinued model that had been a return - never used. With all the discounts we received, we wound up purchasing it for almost half of what we would have paid otherwise. As I said, it's a discontinued model, but for the moment it's still on their website, so you can check out what it looks like:

Both are beautiful furniture pieces that will look great in a guest room someday if Baby Girl or any subsequent Peanuts do not chew/paint/color/(insert bodily fluid here) on them too much (the crib converts to a toddler bed, a daybed, and a full size bed). BRU is even so kind as to hold the set in their storage room until we move in late May so that we do not have to move the furniture twice in six weeks.
Once we knew our child would not actually be sleeping in a drawer in our bedroom bureau, we were inspired to continue with preparations.
So this weekend we decided to go to Babies R Us and start a registry. It's kind of fun, actually - they give you a clipboard with suggestions and a little scanner gun. When you find something you want, you scan the UPC code and it immediately goes onto your registry. We made it about two hours before I pooped out - my hips don't like to stand more than an hour or two, and I hadn't eaten in, oh, fifteen minutes. I have also discovered the clothes section and Jack was having trouble getting me away from the dainty little girl outfits. So there's a little more we need to put on here, but we can save that for another weekend. Perhaps next time I can take a backpack full of essentials, like cake.
